Filter coffee was perfected by the French. The French press coffee maker (or press pot) is now recognised by experts as one of the best brewing methods, having passed through various types of drip machines.

The Austrians preferred the French method of brewing coffee, but served it with cream instead of milk. This type of coffee suited the tastes of Scandinavian countries and Western countries in general.
